Classes/Events

Courageous Art

Each month September – June, final Friday of the month (except December, it is earlier)

Counterpoint: Yes, you are! We are creative beings – we are creative in our attire, our problem solving, our cooking, our work, etc.

Oftentimes, when I receive this resistance from people attending a reflective art event, it actually has more to do with perfectionism -fear of being “wrong” or “failing” at being creative…. it has to do with EXPECTATIONS.

The expectation for my reflective art experiences are reflection through using your body, allowing your mind to engage in a different way. The product is irrelevant.

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.”

Maya Angelou

That’s ok – this isn’t an “art” class in the typical sense. The goal of this class is to reflect – slow down, pay attention to your body and heart, andmove your body in a different way (playing with various mediums).

This isn’t about performance or impressing anyone with your ability to create photorealistic art 0 this is about BEING, RESTING, NOTICING….

Join us this Friday to launch into the Fall season with some space to breathe and be intentional about embarking on the next season.

The theme for 21-22 is “time”

“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.”

Dieter F. Uchtdorf

A great question that comes up – you can use anything that you have on hand – we have participants that use construction paper and crayons, colored pencils and a sketchbook, canvas and acrylic paints, watercolors, markers, pencils/pens, brushes, fingers, palette knives, fabric, ephemera, glue, etc.

There is no need for any special tools because, remember, this is not about the product or about performing sophisticated art techniques – this is about using your body to reflect.

What are some of your favorite tools to use for doodling or drawing or coloring or or or….?

“Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do.”

–Edgar Degas
